The Swiss People's Party (SVP) was founded in 1971, but didn't rise to prominence as a major Swiss political party until the 1990s. This 'new SVP' found traction using staunch anti-immigration and anti-EU rhetoric. The party's success peaked in 2007, when the SVP gained more voter share in the federal election than any Swiss political party in history.
